Let me tell you a story:
Once a monk called his two disciples named Namo and Gautam. He instructed them “Deliver this letter to the leader of the village”. Namo took the letter and asked, “Are there any other instructions for us Guruji?” After some thinking Guruji replied “During the journey, you must focus only on your breath. Do not think or talk to anyone. Be free of all your burdens.”
Taking the Gurujis’ permission Namo and Gautam started their journey. They followed their Gurujis’ instructions and delivered the letter to the leader of the village without thinking or talking to anyone. But when they were returning from the village they saw an old lady trying to cross a river. Remembering the Gurujis’ instructions Gautam got confused, should he help the lady but he decided to continue his journey. But Namo went to the old lady talked and helped her in crossing the river. Seeing this Gautam got angry with Namo as he was not following the Gurujis’ instructions.
Then they continued their journey. During the remaining journey, Gautam only thought about how Namo did not followed the Gurujis’ instructions. After reaching the Gurukul the Guruji asked them about their journey. To which Gautam hurriedly replied, “Guruji Namo did not follow your instructions. He talked and helped a woman during our journey”. Hearing this Guruji smiled and said, “Gautam you only followed my words not the motive behind my words”.
Guruji countinued “The reason behind not talking to anyone was to keep your mind free of thinking. Namo helped that woman and left her out of his mind at that place only but you carried that woman in your mind till the Gurukul. Remember many things happen in life but it is upto you whether you keep all those things in your mind or you drop that burden then and there”.
“In life our happiness depends only upon us. If you are always carrying the burden of incidents, situations or others then you are just spending your life till death, you are not living your life. You might be suffering from a broken heart, a loss of your loved one, your dream being shattered or any damn thing but there is one thing that is certain and I know it is not easy but it is the ultimate rule of life:
Life moves on. Thus, you should too.” Guruji concluded.
